Key Finding: “Our results demonstrated the existing synergistic effect between allicin and azoles antifungals in some of the Candida spp. Such as C. albicans, C. glabrata and C. tropicalis, but synergy was not demonstrated in the majority of Candida spp. tested.”

Key Finding: “The results of this study established that antifungal activity of diallyl sulphide, a poorly soluble compound, can be enhanced by incorporation into liposomes. Further studies and optimizations are needed to build upon the promising findings of the present study to enable development of an effective plant-derived antifungal formulation that can provide an alternative to the presently available antifungal drugs.”

Synergistic Antiyeast Activity of Garlic Oil and Allyl Alcohol Derived from Alliin in Garlic. Chung I, Kwon SH, Shim ST, Kyung KH. Journal of Food Science. Vol. 72, Issue 9, pages M437-M440. Published online: 25 Oct 2007. Key Finding: “Combinations of AA and GO at 1 and 9 ppm, 5 and 5 ppm, and 6 and 3 ppm. Respectively, inhibited C. utilis (Candida) completely. The sum of the fractional inhibitory concentrations (FICs) in the 2-component (GO and AA) combination was as low as 0.37 for C. utilis, indicating strong synergism.”
